How Ecommerce Data API rankings work

Where the ranking data comes from, how often it updates, what each metric means and what it cannot tell you.

Every ranking is a snapshot of the Ecommerce Data API taken on the date shown on the page. The same request can be sent with any API key, so each number can be reproduced.

Unit sales, revenue and search volumes are estimates from a third-party data service. They are consistent within an issue, which makes them good for comparison, but they are not figures published by Amazon.

Product rankings keep one row per parent listing so a product with many variations is counted once. Listings that only look new because a new child was added to an old product are excluded.

Search-term rankings come from Amazon Brand Analytics weekly reports. Film, book and other media searches are removed, and rank growth is the rank improvement divided by the earlier rank.

The first 20 rows of each ranking are public. Signed-in users can see up to 100 rows and download them as CSV.

Amazon Rising New Products

Monthly

  • Scope: US marketplace, listed within six months, estimated sales over the last 30 days, one row per parent listing and at most three places per brand. The "Sellers based in China" segment keeps only sellers in mainland China or Hong Kong.
  • Listings with more than 3,000 ratings are excluded: the listing date belongs to the child variation, so an old product with a new child would otherwise pass as new.
  • Unit sales are third-party estimates, not figures published by Amazon. They are consistent within an issue, so they compare well side by side.

Amazon Category Opportunity Ranking

Monthly

  • Metrics are computed on the top 100 products of each niche. Only nodes three levels deep or more are kept, so broad departments such as "Women" are left out.
  • The top 20 niches also show their leading brands and the unit share of listings younger than six months.
  • Holiday niches cluster near the top around October. That is seasonal demand, not a year-round opening.

Amazon Q4 Holiday Demand Ranking

Every two weeks

  • Data comes from weekly Amazon Brand Analytics search-term reports: the highest-volume terms, ordered by 12-week rank growth.
  • Rank growth is the rank improvement divided by the earlier rank, so it tops out near 100%. Film, book and other media searches are excluded.

Amazon Rising Search Terms This Week

Weekly

  • Data comes from the latest weekly Amazon Brand Analytics search-term report, sampled in six volume tiers between 10,000 and 100,000 weekly searches so brand head terms with hundreds of thousands of searches do not crowd it out.
  • Film, book and other media searches are excluded, and each term appears once.

Best-Selling Products on Amazon by Category

Monthly

  • Each top-level category is ranked separately, one row per parent listing. "All" merges the categories and re-ranks them by units.
  • Unit sales are third-party estimates, not figures published by Amazon.
