Request example
curl --request POST \
--url https://ecommercedataapi.com/v1/amazon/asin/detail \
--header "Content-Type: application/json" \
--header "X-API-Key: ${ECOMMERCE_DATA_API_KEY}" \
--data '{
"marketplace": "US",
"asin": "B08CK5Z5Q1"
}'asinis required;marketplaceaccepts US, JP, UK, DE, FR, IT, ES, CA, IN, MX, BR, AU and AE.- The endpoint takes an ASIN. There is no UPC, EAN or GTIN parameter, so a barcode has to be converted to an ASIN before you call it. What an ASIN is and how it differs from SKU, UPC and FNSKU explains the identifiers.
Looking up many products
The detail endpoint returns one product per call. To compare many ASINs in one request, use Product Search with the asins array, which returns price, BSR, estimated monthly units, ratings and seller data for each. Use detail when you need the listing itself (title, features, variations, attributes), and search when you need a comparison table.
Related endpoints share the same ASIN input:
- Product History: price, rank, rating and listing snapshots over time.
- ASIN Sales Trends: monthly units and revenue for the parent listing and each child.
- Coupon Trends and Details with Coupon Trends.
Common workflows
- Enrich a product list. Take the ASINs you already track and add title, brand, price, BSR and category, so a spreadsheet becomes a working table.
- Monitor a competitor. Pull the same ASIN each day and compare
price,bsrRank,ratingandcoupon. Competitor price and coupon monitoring shows the once-a-day job. - Check the listing before you compare. Read
variationsandparentbefore putting two products side by side: a parent's figures cover the whole variation family. See what the API's sales data can and cannot tell you. - Score a listing.
lqs, the badge flags and the length offeaturesgive you a quick read on how complete a competitor's listing is.
Limits worth knowing
- Fields that do not exist for a product come back as
nullor-1. The documented example hasprimePrice: -1,deliveryPrice: -1,reviews: nullandquestions: null, so check for them before doing arithmetic. overviewsis a JSON string that has to be parsed a second time.- Every record has
createdTimeandupdatedTimetimestamps in milliseconds. CheckupdatedTimebefore relying on a price for a decision. - Each successful call consumes one billing unit. Handle
429responses as described in errors and rate limits.
FAQ
Is this the Amazon Product Advertising API? No. The Product Advertising API is meant for affiliates. This endpoint returns research data such as BSR, listing quality and variations, and does not require an Associates account.
Can I look up by UPC or EAN? Not directly. Convert the barcode to an ASIN first, then call the endpoint.
Can an AI agent look up products? Yes. The endpoint is exposed as a tool through the remote MCP server, so MCP clients such as Claude Code and Cursor can fetch a product mid-conversation.
