What it does
stockout-prevention is one of the Skills in Amazon's Selling Partner toolkit. It reads your current FBA inventory, derives sales velocity from the last 30 days of orders, and computes days of cover for each SKU. For SKUs at risk it checks inbound shipments and tells you whether the next one lands before stock runs out.
The source defines the arithmetic explicitly: average daily units is the 30-day unit count divided by 30, and days of cover is fulfillable quantity divided by average daily units. Under 7 days is CRITICAL, 7 to under 21 is WARNING, and 21 or more is HEALTHY.
When to use
Use it for a routine inventory check, before a promotion or peak season, or whenever the question is "am I going to run out?" The source excludes catalog management, new product listings, advertising, and order fulfillment. It also does not forecast: velocity is a trailing 30-day average, so a seasonal ramp or a demand spike is not reflected until it has already happened.
Inputs
An authorized Seller Central account with FBA inventory, and the marketplace to check. The underlying tool calls need the seller's merchant ID and marketplace ID; the Skill asks for the merchant ID once if it does not know it. You supply nothing else unless you choose to name a specific price (see the limits below).
Outputs
A short table per SKU with fulfillable units, approximate daily sales, days of cover, and status. For flagged SKUs it adds the projected stockout date, the inbound arrival window, and the gap in days. The source also asks the assistant to render two self-contained visuals: a days-of-cover bar chart with threshold lines at 7 and 21 days, and a timeline of stockout against shipment arrival for the most critical SKU. It then presents two options: get more units in sooner, or accept the stockout and plan the recovery.
Example workflow
Demonstration only; not run. These values are invented to show the arithmetic. They are not an Amazon response.
marketplace: US
today: 2026-10-12
sku: BOTTLE-750-BLK
fulfillable_quantity: 360
units_last_30_days: 900
inbound:
estimated_delivery_window_start: 2026-10-30Average daily units are 900 / 30 = 30. Days of cover are 360 / 30 = 12, which is WARNING in the Skill's bands and also inside Amazon's own at-risk rule of under 14 days of supply. The projected stockout date is 2026-10-24. The shipment arrives on 2026-10-30, so the gap is 6 days: the SKU runs out about 6 days before the shipment lands.
A SKU at 16 days of cover would be reported differently. The source says to describe the 14 to 21 range as approaching risk, not as already at risk by Amazon's rule.
Supported agents and setup
The Skill metadata lists Claude Desktop and AWS Quick. Unlike most other Skills in the same repository, it does not list Claude Code. Evidence reviewed on 2026-10-12: the pinned SKILL.md at commit 8d90d3b, the /sp-stockout-check command file, the plugin manifest, and the repository README. We did not read the two reference files or the eval set. This page is source-reviewed, not install-tested, and shows no install command.
Account, API, and permission requirements
The Skill calls four tools on Amazon's Selling Partner Connector: FBA inventory summaries, order metrics, inbound plans, and a listings patch. Access comes from Seller Central OAuth and is limited by your Seller Central roles. The first three tools are reads. The listings patch is the only write, and the source requires it to run in VALIDATION_PREVIEW mode until you type an approval. No API key from this site is involved.
Limits and human review boundary
The Skill gives no pricing advice in either direction and does not offer a price change as an option. If you name a specific price yourself, it drafts exactly that change as a preview, adds no comment, and waits. Approving it changes a live price, so check the SKU and the number first.
Two parts of the source disagree. The /sp-stockout-check command and the README say the Skill recommends how much to reorder and by when, and the command mentions analytics metric discovery. The SKILL.md we reviewed computes days of cover from order metrics and does not define a reorder-quantity formula. Treat any reorder quantity as something to verify against your own lead times and minimum order quantities. We have not connected a seller account, so tool availability and regional coverage are unconfirmed.
Pair with Ecommerce Data API
After listing the options, the Skill offers market research on demand, seasonality, and competing offers before you decide. That is where market-side data fits. amazon.products.sales-trends returns estimated sales trends for an ASIN, which helps you judge whether the trailing 30 days are typical. amazon.markets.demand-trends returns category demand trends, which shows a seasonal ramp that a 30-day average misses. amazon.products.competitors returns similar competing products for an ASIN. See the sales trends docs and demand trends docs, then create an Ecommerce Data API key if you want that context. These are estimates for the public market. Your own inventory and order counts still come only from your seller account. For the rest of the plugin, see the Amazon Selling Partner Agentic Toolkit.
